Cool Motorcycle Drag Racing in Northen BC

I am getting excited about the upcoming drag race season. Western Canada has the pros with CMDRA CMDRA - Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association. They have an interesting street bike shootout as well. This is where anyone can "run what they brung" once it passes tech. There are a number of races in Mission, Ashcroft, Edmonton and Medecine Hat, AB.
In northern BC, there is a four race series in Terrace. Motorcycles are encouraged to come out for some real "grass roots" drag racing. You never know what you will be racing in Terrace. Those guys will race ANYTHING, even snowmobiles and quads! There are some fast Busa's or a B-King, even some serious lay down bikes. Terrace is an 1/8th mile and a great place to start. Better plan on camping there cuz it's a real good time at any event. Terrace Drag Race Association
Houston is a favorite of mine cuz it's 1/4 mile. This is always a good show at this three day event. Friday nites are an informal test and tune. There is always a great burnout competition and some heavy fireworks. There are nearby accomodations but the real party is in the pits after the races on Sat nite.

Last year we had the Kitimat Hill Climb It was the first time in a long time that they had this event. It was wild. There is nothing like starting out on a bit of an incline. They call it the hillclimb because you race up a mild grade on pavement. You have to pay close attention not to roll back off of the starting line. It is a short race but very competetive. Traction was the thing that leveled the playing field giving anyone a good chance of winning. There is more info on the Terrace site.

So, what you're saying is that, when I ride my, mostly stock, R1 to Ashcroft, I can sign up and do some drag racing myself?

YES, I believe that when you show up in Ashcroft for the "Bug Run 2010" there will be a class you can race in if you can pass tech. Go to their site and check out the rule book for street bike. There are two classes, one is for the points series, the other is usually for a weekend trophy. It is all bracket racing and that makes it an even playing field for all. I suggest getting there very early on Sat if you are going to race. I will most likely camp there on Friday nite if I can. Ashcroft is a "quick" track, I am hoping to lay down an 11 second run on my little sleeper Sporty this year at that event. I still have room for sponsor stickers on my bike, and room on my wall for a third CMDRA trophy! CAUTION drag racing is addictive cuz it's too much fun!

It doesn't take much to get started. Here is a picture of the bike I started racing on and how it turned out. They really are the same bike in both pics. I think I had a total of about $500 into it in the second pic including tires, after three or four years racing. I found a couple of basket cases for parts donors. One month after the first pic it won its first race at the CMDRA race in Prince George. The two glass trophies are for drag racing this old 1977 750 four Honda. The rest are from bike rodeos, including one for the "Kick and Drink", (Kicker removed for racing.) and a couple for "Slow Ride" too.
