You're so right. I worked as a SSW for the School District here for a while (because the College of Teachers didn't want to give me my Teaching Certificate and told me to go back to university [after I had been a teacher for 16 years]). I've seen the most terrible things happen in this District. The teachers here are in there only for the money. I talked to a guy and his motivation to become a teacher was: His uncle used to be a teacher and
now his pension is so good. I worked at an elementary school here and the principal was doing math in group three; her words to the students, and I
quote: "Boys and girls, we're only half way chapter one and next week we have to be in chapter two. Take the book home and do as much as you can do and if you can't, too bad!" The District/system/teachers here create their own problem students. Before I came here I had never seen so many problem students in my life. I can go on and on. I used this example and many others in a letter to the College of Teachers in which I explained why I didn't need to go back to university, because my standards, dedication and skills were much higher than the bunch of crappy, incompetent teachers in the District here. I think that's when I burned my bridges with the College of Teachers

. I worked as a relief SSW at most of the schools from Barriere to Blue River (
+170 km between these two small towns) and had seen only a handful of good teachers.
Wow, did this ever turn into a rant

.
